This week in content marketing: comic relief

We’ve just been turned on to the Marketoonist, aka marketer Tom Fishburne, who also draws very funny cartoons satirizing the latest marketing trends. Like all great satire, a huge dollop of truth and insight lies behind the over-the-top humor of Tom’s cartoons. Here are three of our favorites.

Content overloadWe’re big proponents of repurposing content, such as taking the content of a blog post and turning into a video, infographic or webinar. The Marketoonist’s astute observation on the limits of what your audience can consume highlights the need to create top quality content that will stand out from the crowd.

Silo farmingWhen different departments don’t have a way to collaborate effectively, you miss out on the creative spark that comes from a diversity of ideas. You may also create a blame-culture where siloed teams see each other not as collaborators but competitors, as this funny cartoon notes. If this problem sounds familiar, check out our 4 ways to foster collaboration.

Creative reviewMost creatives will recognize the scenario in this cartoon where work is watered down by multiple reviewers until no one is happy with it. It highlights an issue with accountability in a large group face-to-face creative reviews because it’s often hard to remember who suggested which changes two weeks later. See how Hightail help this marketing team increase transparency in creative reviews.
